PuKai is a Chongqing-based photographer whose practice centers on architecture and interior space. Since 2014 his work has spanned five-star hotels, branded environments, private residences and the documentation of craft objects — observed with the restraint of someone who treats a room as a sentence rather than a stage.

The work deliberately slows down: waiting for the light to climb across a gable, waiting for the dust to settle on a polished table, waiting for the air in a room to compose itself once everyone has stepped out. What is photographed is the relationship the architect set up — between facade and sky, between joinery and floor, between stair and shadow — and the photograph is what is left when that relationship breathes most evenly.
